 I am still buying all the windwool I can get my hands on and turning it into Ethereal shards. Prices have risen in the past few weeks, no more 10g windwool stacks /sadface now it is closer to 40g.


I craft the 458 bracers and use the ethereal shards to make sha crystals once a day and also make mysterious essence. I always end up with lots of spirit dust when DE'ing the rings from ghost iron ore, having a source of very cheap mysterious essences helps me keep all the scrolls stocked up to 20 or 40.

 Low level cloth -> low level dust

 I was levelling my enchanter and needed 155 Vision dust and there was none of the Action House so off i went to wowhead to figure out what to make. I now buy up any mageweave cloth below 15g a stack and sell the dust between 4 - 5g each and the essences for 25 - 35g.

April Gold Making 2013

 Yesterday I hit four million gold liquid, it has been a month with high sales but also some heavy spending. I got back into pet battles (aka losing many many pvp battles and then throwing gold at it) , I decided to make lots of flasks so that every minute I spend levelling alts in MoP I will be flasked. I got my 10th level 90 and finally got my Monk into Pandaria.

Pet Battles

I got back into pet battles once i learnt about the new "Trainer" title coming in patch 5.3. I decided my 17 level 25 pets was'nt enough and ended up spending around 120k on pets and pet levelling services.  I managed to pick up four tcg pets including a Purple Puffer which is a very powerful pet. 

Trade chat was being spammed with pet levelling services and i managed to negotiate some bulk discounts which basically meant it cost me between 1-1.3k per pet levelled from 1 to 24. 

A slight warning about buying these levelling services is try and find a level 90. I was seeing a lot of level 1's offering the service ( give them your pet they will level it up on their main realm) however if after the trade they delete the level 1 I am not sure you will be able to get the pets back. Also dont pay the levelling charge upfront and dont get tcg valuable pets levelled this way unless you trust the person offering the service.

Warbringers for rep and gold

As I try to make more gold on the opposite faction I have started farming Warbringers again for the rep items. On my Blood DK I can solo them so if I can get online during raid times or very early in the morning I can do a complete sweep where i can kill nearly all the warbringers and a lot of the scouts. The contents of the rare quality bags are worth around 600g on my realm.

I still dont have every SoH recipe yet so this is something I want to complete. As of today I am currently missing all LW recipe on horde side while on the  alliance side all BS recipes.

Golden lotus, Resetting Gems and Pricematch, learnt all gem cuts finally

A few weeks ago I noticed one of my main competitors was price matching me, and so I pricematched back but over the weeks since 5.2 there are now 7 people in the JC market all whitelisting each other which helps to keep prices high and reduces the amount of times I post gems per day.

Taking another look at your "system"

Firstly i'd like to say that if your system requires you to vendor items below the amount you paid for them then maybe you need take another look at your system.

I recently watched a livestream where Jim was vendoring 83-84 greens which he sells for like 300-400g each. His reasoning behind this was he did’nt want them filling up his guild bank so only kept one extra item. 

However if he bought the item why is he vendoring it for 12g? I sometimes have a lot of a specific suffix 83-84 greens I just pop them in the mail and I’ll get back in 30 days. It is highly likely by then I will need more of that item.

Space should never be the main issue in a relatively small market, I know these items don’t stack like scrolls or glyphs but they are not so hard to manage if you use a guild bank or unlimited mail storage.

I myself have 7, 8, 9, 10 copies of the exact same 83-84 green,I know I can post 1 - 2 and drop the others in the guild bank or mail them off.

Everyone has there own “system” but adding in a long term view to your system whatever it is can not be a bad thing. Make it less about what will sell today or tomorrow and more about what will sell this month, next month which is especially true in flipping markets.

March Gold Making 2013

The month started with some professions kit sellling, by sorting out my guild banks and a few hours of farming while in LFR queue I managed to put together 7 profession kits. As of writing i've sold only 2 alchemy kits so far for total of 23k in sales. I will look again at my prices and might drop them for my other kits.

 I get a lot of whispers about Blacksmithing kits however when you say you can provide one for 15k they are no longer interested. Out of all the profession Blacksmithing is the one I get asked about the most however these same people are reluctant to pay more than 10k to buy one. For now I continue to bark my current kits and dont plan to make any more

Leveling alts 88-90

So I have used this spot on three of my toons so far, you will need rested xp and a battle standard is very useful.

Go to 60,87 Townlong Steppes

Fast respawn mobs and a rare , also nearby is a quest mob called Needlebottom that gives you 100k xp with rested xp. The respawn time is around 45 seconds.

If the rare spawn is up kill it if you can, very easy on a tank or pet class.

1) kill all the mobs including the turtles that spawn near the rare spawn
2) Kill Needlebottom
3) kill 1-2 mobs nearby
4) Repeat 1-3

Drop your banner in the turtle area for the most benefit. Also you can queue LFD while you grind these mobs.

Great spot if you are getting a little bored with TS, DW questing.

February Gold Making

I've have been focused on levelling alts, I have four 90's currently, three have 16 splot farms. I plant mainly for Golden lotus and Mote of Harmony.

These were my numbers for the week up to 9th February.

Embersilk cloth prices have been dropping on the alliance side so I have been crafting and disenchanting inot Hypnotic dust which sells very well at around 15g each. I also turn some into bolts and sell them around 18g each.

While I queue up for LFR on my DK I mine thorium in Silithus, it works out at around 3500g per hour when you factor in ore, arcanite and gem sale.

I need to find a windwool farming spot because I cant get enough of it. Prices have slowly been going up and they are around 2g each currently. I craft the level 85 armor and the rare procs I sell for around 500g each. The green quality items sell for around 60g but they sell a lot slower.

My GIO stockpile is around 2k stacks Horde side and 500 stacks Alliance side, buying up some exotic leather when I see it cheap.

I thought I would share some screenshots about what i've been upto lately.

A wowhead comment lead me to these two caves in Kun-Lai which are amazing.

If you have a toon with herbalism and mining then it is even better and at least on my realm i dont see anyone else here.

 I've been trying to hunt down the last of the 450 boa items in Dread Wastes.

I have also been levelling my toons, I managed to get hold of the BoA legs this week.

I got these amazing gloves first time on my horde toon but no luck even finding him spawned on my alliance gatherer.

 I've been trying to find a good mote of harmony spot in the middle of nowhere, and as you know from my deepholm posts I like having NPC's help me do damage. This spot is a bit hit and miss i've got as high as 45 motes per hour here and as low as 25.

Yesterday and today i've been looking into grinding spots in Jade forest to get several of my level 85's some fast xp. The jade forest and Vo4W questing is getting a little boring.

Farming your ink

So you might be hearing a lot of people talk about stockpiling including me. This is a great idea but if you don’t have a lot of liquid gold you might want to think about farming some things for your MoP stockpile. What if you wanted to farm 10,000 inks is that realistic? With around 40 days left till MoP is there enough time?

About a week ago Whiptail went over 100g a stack and I really wanted to get more glyphs crafted ready for MoP. I set out to find out how much ink i could get from the best herb farming spots excluding Cataclsym zones. I decided to exlcude cataclysm (bf ink) because this post might prove very useful in the early days of MoP when new herbs are very expensive and we can not trade down using Blackfallow ink.

I also set out to calculate the time it would take to gather enough herbs to make 10,000 ink.

I estimated it would take 1 hour 15mins per day. Guessing at 200 ink per hour and around 40 days till MOP release so that’s your 10,000 ink.

Can you collect 200 ink per hour for each ink type?

These results are based on a Tauren druid, level 25 guild, max flying, using gathermate2 and routes.

Average price of a glyph on my realm is around 75-80g, I am giving each ink a value of 25g.  ( 25 x 3 = 75 )

I may check out other farming spots / different inks however I am pretty sure BC zones (Ethereal ink) will fall short of the 200 ink per hour. It does look possible to farm 10,000 ink before MoP however the distribution will probably be missing Ethereal ink.

It might be useful in my next post to do a baseline for Uldum to try and see whether it makes more sense to just farm whiptail while we can still trade down, however i think this post will be useful in the future when you might run out of ink and MoP herbs are expensive.

Liquid vs Stockpile

I've been thinking hard about my mix of liquid gold vs. stockpiled items heading into MoP.

While checking out the consortium forums I came across this post by Zman.

This post was in a topic called Inflation, Investing and Cash

“Most of the inflation occurs in big ticket items such as TCG mounts or (temporarily) raid drops. The price of everything else - herbs, ore, elementals, leather, cloth - deflates over the course of the expansion (the occasional spike from gear resets aside). Because of this, I keep the bulk of my slush fund as liquid gold and focus on churning through inventory to get in and out of markets before the next step in the decline. At the start of an expansion, I want liquid gold above all else - the markets have new materials that require gold, and many mats from the previous expansion are entering a period of high supply and non-existent demand.

What I do have "invested" in materials is mostly from two expansions back that are now largely unaffected by expansion release cycles. There's very little in Cata mats that catches my interest at the moment to be worth wasting storage space on.”

 

It started to make me think that maybe I have too much liquid to be worrying about stockpiling?

In the time between now and launch is it really feasible to spend even half my liquid (1.5 mill) on items to add to my stockpile? Considering TCG mounts are very very rare and the highest value mount on Alliance + Horde Auction house right now is 43k for a crimson deathcharger.

I have around two million gold worth of transmog items, a little over one million in glyphs. This is all in today’s prices; I also have 130k invested in 13 Swift Lovebirds. Around 150k in ore, bars, cloth and enchanting materials.

So 3 Mill liquid and 3.5 mill stockpiled seems to be a decent spot to be in, maybe I should stop worrying about converting most of my liquid into stockpiled items because its never going to happen on any great scale this close to MoP. I’ll pick up what I can for sure, but even if MoP launches and I’m at 2-3 mill liquid its ok.

Here’s hoping the black market auction house acts as an anti-inflationary pressure through the wow economy, Blizz make sure to reduce the speed items appear on the Auction House after the first month to make sure prices stay high, we don’t want Ashes six months on going for like 25k do we? Slow release of items on to the auction house will make sure people bid more when what they want pops up. Make sure to update BMAH level 90 gear with content patches as well please blizzard, see I don’t ask for much.

Lets break it down and give my own thoughts on each.

1) I think some of the Cata items look really nice, not really looked into the transmog goodness of 81-84 greens, but check out this toon in 77-80 cata greens. and make sure to vote for someone *winks*

2) Ok I think you are right here, however if you were seriously thinking about amassing a stockpile of Chimera’s Eye please email me because I think you need some one on one gold making help immediately.

3) You better stockpile infinite dust because  you need like 600 of these per levelling enchanter. I get the majority of my Infinite dust from Disenchanting Scans, don’t just rely on Abyss crystals. You are basically saying my only source of infintie dust is dependant 100% on the cost and supply of one item. You are not even going to look into other options for stockpiling this material? I understand space is limited but thats why we have infinite mail storage.

4) Eternal’s used in titansteel you better be stockpiling them in whatever form you can get them! Who doesn’t want to see a Panda on a chopper? EU Stats from TUJ

 

5) Pets Pets Pets! Enchanted Lantern / Magic lamp uses Maelstrom crystals and Heavenly Shards. Why buy from a vendor when you can get them cheaper in the pre-MOP crash. Maelstroms have already dropped 30% in the past week here. People were using wotlk weapon enchants in early Cata because Cataclysm enchants were so expensive.

6) Luckily the majority of enchanting rod mats are profession levelling mats, so yes get rid of that primal might, but hold on to those adamantite ore/bars. Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

7) You need Cata uncommon gems to level up Jewelcrafting so hold onto some Zephyrite, Nightstone and Hessonite.

8) Ok don’t go crazy on these glyphs that will be charred but make sure you are still selling them now!

9) Ye I agree here, but if they get crazy cheap remember you can disenchant these for crystals.

10) Crafted Pets are awesome! You’re reasoning that they are too easy to make is just so wrong. Netherweave Bags are easy to make does it make them bad?

 You need to rephrase that me thinks.

There will be increased supply of stuff like copper, mithril but also increased demand for profession levelling. If I was you I would buy up stuff now and lock in those price today.

Tick Tock MoP

So 25^th Sept is when we will be able to roll around in Pandaria.

 I’ve got two months before things get crazy or things are going or be crazy for the next two months!

A while back in a discussion on twitter I thought that 4 Million gold may be doable by MoP launch and that is probably still true however if herbs/ores start getting dumped by bots/farmers clearing out Gbanks ready for MoP then that goal may not happen.

I’m closing in on three million and I would love to drop One Million to stockpile goodies for resale at MoP launch.

I currently have eleven 85’s (9 horde and 2 Alliance) it is possible for me to get 3 or 4 more toons to 85 since I have 3 toons above 80 currently but do I really want to quest in cataclysm again is the question.

I have several professions to level up and think this will probably take up most of my time over the next couple of weeks. I am still undecided on which toon to level up first. I thought it would be my Druid with herbalism/inscription but I may level up my alliance DK with skinning/LW first because I think LW could be really really huge in MoP.

With recent changes to pets I’m not really sure what to do, I still think there will be demand for crafted pets come MoP because as far as I can tell you cant catch crafted pets in the wild, even though I did fight a robo squirrel type thing in Winterspring but it was’nt called a mechanical squirrel .

I’m still trying to get over the Rod changes, it made me a real sad panda and it really feels like blizzard are closing some of the areas where those in the know could make a lot of gold, but on a positive note my copper rod sales might go up massively!

My Glyphs plan is to have 20 of each glyph on Horde and Alliance and then stock up on ink. Currently I  only have 20 of each on horde side and around 5k bf ink so there is going to be a lot of milling over the next couple of months.

Focus on making gold during the lull, you will find you have less competition and it is a great time to experiment in different markets. Shift focus away from catering to the raiders, focus on those levelling professions and alts.

I realised I might have been pricing my 77-81 greens too low so I raised prices and now fluctuate them between 300g- 380g. I charge more on fri/sat/sun as most of my sales come over the weekend and drop prices to get a few more sales during the week.

I decided this month to go back to a similar transmog pricing strategy I had a few months ago, which basically meant I doubled the price of every transmog item I sold. It’s still too early to tell what impact this has made, I have had a good week but last weekend was super slow. Need more time to assess what impact reverting to old prices has made on sales numbers/ profits.

I’ve started to dabble in pets, recipes and trade mats. I have had consistent success flipping 378 weapons and resetting landslide / windwalk / power torrent scrolls.

Now that I have a substantial pile of gold I can be very aggressive and get into markets and correct them. I did’nt like that nightmare tears were 170g/ea so I reset the market and now they are selling for around 400g.

So basically I flip anything I can get my hands on! 

After Jim had mentioned wowuction in his livestream a few times, I started looking into it. I have to say I think wowuction is an amazing tool. I like to use it in conjuction with TUJ to get greater insight into what is selling and where I can diversify into.

Enchanting rods

I am selling arcanite and adamantaite for the most, but actually eternium is probably best for profits I can pick up ore for 2-3g/ea and sell rod for 130-170g.

Pets

From engineering pets to vendor pets these are flying off the shelves as with any holiday with a pet reward the midsummer fire festival has increased demand for pets. Pets are a great item for making gold while levelling they are very cheap to buy and always sell with demand spikes around holidays.

Embersilk bags

I have been doing a little bit of shuffling and ended up with 2000 hypnotic dust so I make these bags, I find the price peaks at the weekend so I don’t sell at 300g during week but sell lots at 400-450g on weekends.

BOA enchants

15 agi, cloak stealth, 22 int are my best sellers. I don’t have the +4 stats to chest recipe.

Crafted levelling gear

Jim had mentioned on his livestream selling levelling gear but I think he was focused on actual drops not crafted items. This also came up during The Clockworkriot Litecast episode 5, I have been experimenting with a few crafted tailoring / LW items. Some have been very successful and others not so much. I think the trick is to craft items in slots that are not slots that are mass crafted during levelling these professions. Still experimenting so will post more once I have a better idea of the items that sell regularly. Selling something for 500g which cost you 10g to craft is pretty awesome.

I am really excited about the new Pet Battle System

It’s been a while since I played Pokemon but from what I remember having varied pets to call upon was what won you most battles. Going in with for example all fire pets was very risky.

This means even though a good mechanical (engineer crafted) stockpile is still a good idea you may want to look at other options to diversify your stockpile across more pet types.

By pre-crafting or at least buying the materials now we can reduce the impact of inflation. Buying items at today’s price but selling them at tomorrow’s inflated price. If demand for these pets goes up then it might be harder to find materials let alone cheap materials. They sell for good profits today and they’ll sell for even better profits in the future.

I decided to mass craft some Engineering pets I watched the price of mats and tried to buy them in bulk when they were at the lowest point.

So you can do a few things:

1)     just stockpile Choke mats ready to flip in MoP

2)     stockpile all the mats for the toad and other pets

3)     Pre-craft everything and start selling it all now, more Demand when MoP launches but also likely to be way more competition in the pets market.

Wow players like to be rewarded, there needs to be some rewards for participating and being successful in the Pet Battle System. The Popularity of Pet Battles will largely depend on how much time/effort Blizzard put into it. I would love to see a ranking similar system similar to Arena’s with titles and other rewards. Hopefully they don’t add an overpowered pet that drops from the last boss of a raid or something.

What are the chances MOP will be released when the faire is in town? Frog box stockpile? Definitely something to think about once a release date for MoP is released

Geode pets have been mentioned a lot in livestreams/podcasts and I also think that if you can get them cheap grab some. In MoP only those levelling professions will go back to cataclysm zones to mine. Geode pets might still show up on the AH but the frequency will be greatly reduced and they will be a lot more expensive.

 The first one that came to mind for me was raptors; they can to an extent be farmed up and can be bought very cheap. A cheap raptor may have the exact same abilities as an expensive raptor.

Is One Million Gold in 30 days possible?

What you will need:

A toon with herbalism (ideally tauren and/or druid)

Same toon or another with maxed inscription

Farming time!

MATHS!

Example 1 - 100 MoP Decks!

100 decks – 10.5 cards per deck so 1050 cards roughly for 100 decks.

Assumption 1: Takes 10 new version of inferno ink per card and inks per stack of herbs stays the same.

1 card = 6.25 stacks of herbs (10 new bf ink convert into 1 new version of inferno ink)

So 100 decks = 1050 cards = 6562.5 stacks of herbs.

Assumption 2: 30 stacks of high level herbs per hour

6562.5/30 = 218hrs = roughly seven and a quarter hours per day.

That’s to make 100 decks purely via farming within one month of MoP launch.

Assumption 3: Inflation of 50% or more

Take average of 20k/deck = 20k x 100 = Two Million Gold

Example 2 - 50 MoP Decks!

50 decks = 11.66 cards per deck

50decks = 583 cards = 3643.75 stacks of herbs

3643.75/30 = 121 hours = roughly four hours per day.

Take average of 20k/deck = 20k x 50 = One Million Gold

In Cata decks were going for around 20k / 15k / 15k / 5k in first 1-2 faires

An average of 13.75k per deck

MoP inflation so far no-one has any idea but I’m assuming it will increase prices by at least 50%. That 13.75k -> 20k. This is on the low side I think as well.

So just farm herbs for first 30 days of the new expansion if you want to make one million gold in a month. That should keep you going for the rest of the expansion. Your ability to farm for that much depends on your realm population, whether it is a pvp realm and at what time of the day you can farm.

Some assumptions which might not hold up and may significantly alter the math:

1)      30 stacks an hour seems high especially for a non-Druid / non-Tauren

2)      It might take more than 10 of the new version of inferno ink per card, remember in wotlk similar cards only took 6 snowfall ink per craft

3)      Inflation could be higher or lower

Getting ready for Mists of Pandaria: The MoP Stockpile

It might seem too early for some and I’d agree where Cataclysm items are concerned, but for everything else now is as good a time as any. I will be focusing on ore, leather and enchanting materials. I think that JC/BS will either still be best profession slots for raiders or at least be on par with the other professions in MoP.

Ores/bars

As these materials are used by engineering, blacksmithing and jewelcrafting this will be the largest part of my stockpile. Bars will take less room generally but I want to make sure I have some in ore form for prospecting.

Tin, Mithril, Thorium, Fel iron, Adamantite, Khorium, Eternium, Cobalt, Saronite, Titanium.

Leather

For leather I will be looking at building up a stockpile of all leather and all hides. Leather prices here are already very high. Rugged leather and thick leather are usually north of 150g/stack, medium and heavy around 80g/stack. With the new class Monk being a leather wearing class I think it is safe to say there will be more LW in MoP.

Enchanting materials

Mainly focusing on Strange dust, Illusion dust, Greater eternal essence, Large brilliant shards, Arcane dust, Greater planar essence, Infinite dust. I will also stockpile all the materials for enchanting rods.

To store these items I am in the process of setting up several new Gbanks on my second account. I am advertising to buy any level guilds with 5/6 bank tabs, you are giving up on the naming of the guild but saving money compared to setting it up yourself. I will  buy/make 7 new guilds for my second account probably 5 Horde 2 Alliance.
