Recruit a Friend Guide Part One 1 - 67 (RAF)

Make a group and use your summon ability to get both toons together, find a mailbox and load up on BOA gear (these make a huge difference so make sure you got 4 boa for each toon). Don’t worry about plate for plate wearers and mail for mail wearers, my first RaF pair were a warrior and priest and I used cloth BoA and leather BoA on the warrior.

Follow macro

/follow NAME

Where NAME is the name of your other toon

RaF Team One
Level 85 – Alvin
Level 1 priest - Theodore
Level 1 warrior – Simon

Priest macro:

/follow Alvin

Warrior macro:

/follow Alvin

Spending talent points!

Think defensively when spending points, on my warrior I went prot and on the priest shadow. Shadowform and extra defences for being prot really help out, sometimes your lowbie alts will get agro if they can take a hit or two before dieing then this is of great benefit to you.  Alvin is a pure dps so can only res using Guild perks so deaths really slow you down. This is most noticeable when I took level 61 Theodore and 61 Simon into heroic ramparts where there are 71 elites which chomp through 61’s fast.

Go ahead and add all three characters to the same guild, you can get guild rep and guild achievements.

1-10 Questing

I had Simon follow Theodore because I have better caster boa’s (staff/trinkets) equipped on him. Make sure to accept quests on both (playing in windowed mode and alt-tabbing between the two characters).

10 -16 Deadmines

Deadmines entrance… I got lost I’ll admit it, I have not been into Deadmines since vanilla.

I used this youtube video to get to the entrance.

Use the macros!

Simon uses:
/follow Alvin

Theodore uses:
/follow Alvin

Alvin clears the dungeon, the tricky part is the bit with the parrots and avoiding the cannon damage, focus on killing the flying monsters of death first and take your time on the cannons, pausing so you don’t get knocked off into the water (record knocked off four times in one run). From here clear as normal making sure not to leave Simon or Theodore left behind stuck on a cannon or corner, make sure they are following you!

Run back to the entrance reset and repeat, pick up any quests when you can they provide a lot of extra xp.

16 – 22 Stockades

You can move over to stockades at 15 but I stayed till 16 to finish off quests and I don’t like abandoning a dungeon clear midway through.

Be careful of the patrolling mobs, but other than that pretty straightforward, clear both sides and reset. Pick up quests when you can.

22 – 36 Scarlet Monastery

This is pre –patch when I get more info I will update it but for now here is how I experienced SM pre-patch.

Do not reset dungeon until you have cleared library, armoury and cathedral. Keep an eye out for chests in library and armour they can contain gems, recipes and transmog items. Don’t leave till you have done all the quests. In Sm: Cath when you all get put to sleep this breaks the /follow so before Alvin leaves I had to press those follow macros again on Simon and Theodore.

36-42 Scholomance

Loads of quests here but you can’t grab them straight away. In the last room drop Simon and Theodore at the top of the stairs, take Alvin and clear all 5 rooms of trash and mini-bosses (3 up stairs and 2 down stairs). Kill Alexei which will summon Gandling.

Run out and reset, check there might be a rare spawn if you open the door at the entrance great for XP.

42 – 48 BRD

From entrance take a left, open the door and head towards Bael’Gar lots of packs here great for xp, head back to the entrance and clear everything in this area. I skip the arena event because it really slows you down. Instead head towards General Angerforge. Kill everything in the bar and keep going. Kill The Seven and take a right towards the Molten Core entrance, there are 10-11 level 56 fire elemental here to kill. The Lycueum is too much trouble so turn around and go back to the area above the arena.  Kill all these spectators and make your way towards pyromancer loregrain and clear the vault area and move towards Lord Incedious, from here go back to the entrance. Reset and repeat. The XP is fantastic, I did’nt do any quests before I was ready to move on to Blackrock spire.

48 - 57 LBRS + UBRS

Clear lbrs and then run back towards ubrs entrance, clear everything, grab the Jenkins title while you are here. Repeat and reset. Pick up quests at the entrance.

57 – 65 Hellfire dungeons normal and heroic

Clear ramparts until you get to 60, and then do heroic ramparts. If you are spreading out the RAF’ing over a few days just log in and do one normal and one heroic for a few days to get to 65. Otherwise keep doing normals, do the quests and you will 65 and ready to move onto shattered halls.

65-67 Shattered halls

Ok I died a lot in here, you will agro a whole room with 12-15 mobs so be ready to drop some serious AOE and if you root a mob it will attack the nearest player irrelevant of agro. There are sneaky orc rogues that will sap you and proceed to kill Simon and Theodore so make sure you have a pvp trinket ready just in case you don’t see one until it is too late!

Quests give insane xp, 160k -180k xp per quest. I got to 67 in 2 runs.

This is where I am currently I will be moving over to Northrend but first I pulled Simon and Theodore to SW to learn flying, learn some spells and get bigger/ more bags.

The Hunt for Large Brilliant Shards

 I recently acquired the recipe Enchant Chest – Greater Stats and have all my eight alchemists pumping out Essence of Air so I need lots and lots of Large Brilliant Shards. They are around 40-45g each on my realm so I headed over to BRD.

Check on the rare spawn on the way in, and check again every dungeon reset. The spawn time is around 2-4 minutes.

Zone into BRD and use the abandoned mole machine at the entrance.

Shortcut to just past the grim guzzler, then jump down to Lord Incedius.

Kill Fineous Darkvire.

Next up is the vault, then Pyromancer Loregrain. Head over the arena area and move towards General Angerforge.

Then continue as normal to the last boss.

I try to loot everything I kill but will sometimes skip some mobs just to get through the run a little quicker.

Make sure to kill Plugger because he can drop nice transmog item.

From a run you can get Transmog items, GEE, Illusion Dust, Dream dust and BRD is a great place to get Black diamonds also. You will get 45-50 LBS per hour, a stack of illusion dust and Runecloth (which I use to turn into more illusion dust using tailoring/disenchanting)

Five Fast Gold Making Tips : August

  1. Patterm: Thick Murloc Armor

wowhead model viewer

You can buy the recipe from Blixrez Goodstitch in Booty Bay. Sell the recipe and sell the item if you can gather the extremely hard to get materials.

 The actual scales you need to craft the item may have been removed from the majority of murlocs in cataclysm so if you are selling the actual item go for like 10k+ because it looks awesome.Yes it is a leather item.

Some people are reporting that only one rare spawn  Scargil seems to drop the scales so it can be extremely difficult to craft this item, however this recipe is limited supply so try and grab it if you are in the area. Worth checking your banks to see if you have any of these scales gathering dust.

Making Gold at the end of an expansion: Up 429k in 30 days

30 days in gold making 26th May – 25th June
Flipping 378 weapons and Weapon scrolls
Wowuction + TUJ
Enchanting rods
Pets
Embersilk bags
BOA enchants
Crafted levelling gear

Focus on making gold during the lull, you will find you have less competition and it is a great time to experiment in different markets. Shift focus away from catering to the raiders, focus on those levelling professions and alts.

I realised I might have been pricing my 77-81 greens too low so I raised prices and now fluctuate them between 300g- 380g. I charge more on fri/sat/sun as most of my sales come over the weekend and drop prices to get a few more sales during the week.

I decided this month to go back to a similar transmog pricing strategy I had a few months ago, which basically meant I doubled the price of every transmog item I sold. It’s still too early to tell what impact this has made, I have had a good week but last weekend was super slow. Need more time to assess what impact reverting to old prices has made on sales numbers/ profits.

I’ve started to dabble in pets, recipes and trade mats. I have had consistent success flipping 378 weapons and resetting landslide / windwalk / power torrent scrolls.

Now that I have a substantial pile of gold I can be very aggressive and get into markets and correct them. I did’nt like that nightmare tears were 170g/ea so I reset the market and now they are selling for around 400g.

So basically I flip anything I can get my hands on!

After Jim had mentioned wowuction in his livestream a few times, I started looking into it. I have to say I think wowuction is an amazing tool. I like to use it in conjuction with TUJ to get greater insight into what is selling and where I can diversify into.

Enchanting rods

I am selling arcanite and adamantaite for the most, but actually eternium is probably best for profits I can pick up ore for 2-3g/ea and sell rod for 130-170g.

Pets

From engineering pets to vendor pets these are flying off the shelves as with any holiday with a pet reward the midsummer fire festival has increased demand for pets. Pets are a great item for making gold while levelling they are very cheap to buy and always sell with demand spikes around holidays.

Embersilk bags

I have been doing a little bit of shuffling and ended up with 2000 hypnotic dust so I make these bags, I find the price peaks at the weekend so I don’t sell at 300g during week but sell lots at 400-450g on weekends.

BOA enchants

15 agi, cloak stealth, 22 int are my best sellers. I don’t have the +4 stats to chest recipe.

Crafted levelling gear

Jim had mentioned on his livestream selling levelling gear but I think he was focused on actual drops not crafted items. This also came up during The Clockworkriot Litecast episode 5, I have been experimenting with a few crafted tailoring / LW items. Some have been very successful and others not so much. I think the trick is to craft items in slots that are not slots that are mass crafted during levelling these professions. Still experimenting so will post more once I have a better idea of the items that sell regularly. Selling something for 500g which cost you 10g to craft is pretty awesome.

New Server Heirlooms by Jamie

Having recently rerolled on a new realm I really missed having access to my heirlooms. This was a great guest post and i am super happy to host it on my blog.

Follow Jamie on twitter @sjamielynn

Over to you Jamie.

~~~~~~~~~~
Howdy folks! Jamie here.
I recently started on a new server, Shannon's server, Steamweedle Cartel, and was very upset about not having all my awesome Bind-on-Account pieces. (Should be renamed Bind-on-Server >.<) So I thought of this awesome idea of how to acquire heirlooms, which I shall now share with all of you.
     STEP ONE, you will need to already have a level 80 character (or above) on another server somewhere. You will also need to have Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft, but that should be a given, especially if you already have a level 80 character somewhere. ^_- Another thing to note though, just in case, is if you already have a high level character (above level 55 would be considered "high level" in this situation) on the server you are looking to get heirlooms on, you can skip step two and step three, and go straight to step four, if you're looking to use this method anyway. :)
     STEP TWO, create a Death Knight. Any DK, make it special and pretty/handsome and awesome ;) You'll be using this toon a lot for a while. This endeavor will take you a good amount of time to complete, so you might as well enjoy the character you're making :)
Also, once you log in, you should find a level 19 or higher guild. Normally when starting on a new server, like in my case, you're joining up with other friends so look to see if they can hook you up, but also when you log in you get spammed by a few people to join their guild. Accept any of them that are level 19 or higher. The reason for this is two-fold.
     First off, at level 6, guilds gain the perk Fast Track (Rank 2), which increases experience gained from monsters and quest completion by 10%. This will help you level up faster, which is always good. ^_^
     Second reason, at level 19, guilds gain the perk Honorable Mention (Rank 2), which increases Honor points gained by 10%. This will help you greatly once you're on to step four.
    STEP THREE, start leveling your DK. You will need to get out of the DK starting area. It shouldn't take you more than about 2 hours. I recommend for this idea to go Blood spec. It will increase your survivability by doing it this way, making farming HK easier.
You should be around level 57 or 58 when you leave this area and head to Stormwind or Orgrimmar.
Here are my recommendations for your talent tree when doing this. Because you're leaving at level 57 or 58, the first picture is how many points you'll be able to spend up to that point. The second picture is how I complete out the DK tree for Blood, with PvP in mind.
     STEP FOUR, At this point, you will be entering Battlegrounds. YaY! You should queue up for one of two Battlegrounds. Either a) select Random Battleground or b) select which ever battleground has the Call to Arms in parentheses next to it. Please note, the Call to Arms is only from Friday at server reset to Tuesday at server reset. It's a nice chunk of time, 4 days, but it means the other 3 days have no Call to Arms.
     Choosing one of these two options will optimize the amount of Honor you will be gaining from doing Battlegrounds. This is because if you win, you'll get a bonus of 90 Honor points and even if you lose, you'll still get a bonus of 15 Honor points. Losing bonus isn't much but it's still something extra, making it worth it if you pick Random Battleground or the Call to Arms. Also, something to make note of with the random battleground/CtA rewards is the higher level you are the more you get. On my 85, the bonus is 270 Honor points for a win (plus 100 Conquest points, but that's something entirely different, lol just a bonus ;) ) and 45 Honor points for a loss. Another thing, if you PvP a lot, and there is a specific battleground that you are good at, it could be worth picking that one instead of random or the CtA if you are confident in your ability to get Honor Kills and such. This option becomes less viable as you gain levels because the 270 bonus at 85 would be hard to make up for unless you're uber awesome epic good. ;)
Edlan Halsing is the NPC who can exchange your HP -> JP.
     STEP FIVE, to convert or not to convert. This is a question you need to ask yourself. You can buy two different types of Heirlooms: PvP gear or PvE gear. If you're mainly a PvPer or don't really care that much about your stats or what not as you're leveling, then grabbing the PvP gear will be more beneficial. If you do care about having the PvE gear, then grab the PvE gear. The downfall to the PvE gear is you lose out on the conversion. It takes 375 HP to get 250 JP, which comes out to you needing 1.5 HP for every 1 JP you need.
So let's look at these numbers a little bit now. At level 57 or 58, you enter a battleground by random/CtA queueing. I did this at level 58 on my DK. The queue came up with Alterac Valley. I didn't try to go for the win, I tried going for Honor Kills and such.
Alliance won this Battleground, so I got the extra 90 Honor. As you can see I didn't do super well. I died 12 times, and only got 157 Honorable Kills, with 4 Killing Blows. Not super good. I ended up with 197 Honor. Note: The window said I should have received 241 Honor. I spoke to a GM about this and it is an error that Blizzard is aware of. The amount you receive is the correct amount, even if the pop-up table says more or less. In the adding of the bonus or what not, sometimes the number get jumbled up. /shrug That's all I know on the situation, kinda sucks to see that it says you got X amount but you only actually got Y.
Here is a quick breakdown of the Justice Heirlooms so you know how much HP you need to grind to get each piece of gear.
  • All Shoulder and Chest pieces are 2175 JP - 3263 HP needed.
  • Weapons are between 2175 JP and 3500 JP, depending on 1H, 2H ranged, type, etc - 3263-5250 HP needed.
  • Trinkets are 2725 JP - 4088 HP needed.
***Math Time***
Moving on from this, I'm going to go into details about getting Justice Heirlooms, because that is the gear that I go for. To get one shoulder or chest piece in Justice Heirlooms you need 3263 Honor. With using 197 as Honor per BG, you'll need to do 17 BGs, which will get you 3349 Honor. (16 only gets you 3152 Honor.) For the most expensive Justice Heirloom, let's take the Two-Handed Staff, you need 5250 Honor. Using 197 again, you'll need to do 27 BGs, which will result in 5319. (26 only gets you 5122 Honor.) For trinkets you need 4088 Honor. With 197 yet again, you'll need 21 BGs, which will result in 4137. (20 only gets you 3940 Honor.) Now, 17 - 27 BGs seems like a ton to do. So now let's look at how long it takes. The AV I was in took 32 minutes. Round that to 30 minutes and it takes eight and a half hours to finish 17 BGs, 13 and a half hours for 27 BGs. If you do about two hours worth of BGs, it will take you just over 4 days to get each of the cheaper pieces and 7 days to get the most expensive ones that are weapons.
TL;DR
Each shoulder and chest piece will take 17 BGs, or 8.5 hours.
Each weapon will take between 17 to 27 BGs, or 8.5 to  13.5 hours.
Each trinket will take 21 BGs, or 10.5 hours.
With using the same mathematics, here is the results for Honor Heirlooms:
Each shoulder and chest piece will take 10 BGs, or 5 hours.
Each weapon will take between 10 to 18 BGs, or 5 to 9 hours.
Each trinket will take 14 BGs, or 7 hours.
NOTE: These numbers are all for wins. If you lose every BG here is what the numbers look like for Justice Heirlooms:
Each shoulder and chest piece will take 27 BGs, or 13.5 hours.
Each weapon will take between 27 to 43 BGs, or 13.5 to 21.5 hours.
Each trinket will take 34 BGs, or 17 hours.
For Honor Heirlooms:
Each shoulder and chest piece will take 18 BGs, or 9 hours.
Each weapon will take between 18 to 29 BGs, or 9 to 14.5 hours.
Each trinket will take 23 BGs, or 11.5 hours.
You're wins and loses will very and have no guarantee either way which means for a chest piece it will take between 8.5 hours and 13.5 hours, averaging out to about 11 hours per piece. Another thing to keep in mind is that all weapons and trinkets do NOT have an experience bonus on them. So with this in mind, you only need the shoulder and chest pieces. Therefore, it should take you about 9 to 14 days, depending on win/lose ratio, to get the Justice shoulder and chest piece for your new character, and only 5 to 9 days to get the Honor shoulder and chest piece.
All in all, it will take a little bit to get these pieces, but it should be worth it in the end. :) 20% extra experience is nice. ^_-
That is all for now, folks, stay tuned for more posts from me in the weeks to come! :D
