March Gold Making 2013

The month started with some professions kit sellling, by sorting out my guild banks and a few hours of farming while in LFR queue I managed to put together 7 profession kits. As of writing i've sold only 2 alchemy kits so far for total of 23k in sales. I will look again at my prices and might drop them for my other kits.

 I get a lot of whispers about Blacksmithing kits however when you say you can provide one for 15k they are no longer interested. Out of all the profession Blacksmithing is the one I get asked about the most however these same people are reluctant to pay more than 10k to buy one. For now I continue to bark my current kits and dont plan to make any more

Leveling alts 88-90

So I have used this spot on three of my toons so far, you will need rested xp and a battle standard is very useful.

Go to 60,87 Townlong Steppes

Fast respawn mobs and a rare , also nearby is a quest mob called Needlebottom that gives you 100k xp with rested xp. The respawn time is around 45 seconds.

If the rare spawn is up kill it if you can, very easy on a tank or pet class.

1) kill all the mobs including the turtles that spawn near the rare spawn
2) Kill Needlebottom
3) kill 1-2 mobs nearby
4) Repeat 1-3

Drop your banner in the turtle area for the most benefit. Also you can queue LFD while you grind these mobs.

Great spot if you are getting a little bored with TS, DW questing.

February Gold Making

I've have been focused on levelling alts, I have four 90's currently, three have 16 splot farms. I plant mainly for Golden lotus and Mote of Harmony.

These were my numbers for the week up to 9th February.

Embersilk cloth prices have been dropping on the alliance side so I have been crafting and disenchanting inot Hypnotic dust which sells very well at around 15g each. I also turn some into bolts and sell them around 18g each.

While I queue up for LFR on my DK I mine thorium in Silithus, it works out at around 3500g per hour when you factor in ore, arcanite and gem sale.

I need to find a windwool farming spot because I cant get enough of it. Prices have slowly been going up and they are around 2g each currently. I craft the level 85 armor and the rare procs I sell for around 500g each. The green quality items sell for around 60g but they sell a lot slower.

This is my MySales for today

My GIO stockpile is around 2k stacks Horde side and 500 stacks Alliance side, buying up some exotic leather when I see it cheap.

Recruit a Friend Guide Part One 1 - 67 (RAF)

Make a group and use your summon ability to get both toons together, find a mailbox and load up on BOA gear (these make a huge difference so make sure you got 4 boa for each toon). Don’t worry about plate for plate wearers and mail for mail wearers, my first RaF pair were a warrior and priest and I used cloth BoA and leather BoA on the warrior.

Spending talent points!

Think defensively when spending points, on my warrior I went prot and on the priest shadow. Shadowform and extra defences for being prot really help out, sometimes your lowbie alts will get agro if they can take a hit or two before dieing then this is of great benefit to you.  Alvin is a pure dps so can only res using Guild perks so deaths really slow you down. This is most noticeable when I took level 61 Theodore and 61 Simon into heroic ramparts where there are 71 elites which chomp through 61’s fast.

Go ahead and add all three characters to the same guild, you can get guild rep and guild achievements.

1-10 Questing

I had Simon follow Theodore because I have better caster boa’s (staff/trinkets) equipped on him. Make sure to accept quests on both (playing in windowed mode and alt-tabbing between the two characters).

10 -16 Deadmines

Deadmines entrance… I got lost I’ll admit it, I have not been into Deadmines since vanilla.

Alvin clears the dungeon, the tricky part is the bit with the parrots and avoiding the cannon damage, focus on killing the flying monsters of death first and take your time on the cannons, pausing so you don’t get knocked off into the water (record knocked off four times in one run). From here clear as normal making sure not to leave Simon or Theodore left behind stuck on a cannon or corner, make sure they are following you!

Run back to the entrance reset and repeat, pick up any quests when you can they provide a lot of extra xp.

16 – 22 Stockades

You can move over to stockades at 15 but I stayed till 16 to finish off quests and I don’t like abandoning a dungeon clear midway through.

Be careful of the patrolling mobs, but other than that pretty straightforward, clear both sides and reset. Pick up quests when you can.

22 – 36 Scarlet Monastery

This is pre –patch when I get more info I will update it but for now here is how I experienced SM pre-patch.

Do not reset dungeon until you have cleared library, armoury and cathedral. Keep an eye out for chests in library and armour they can contain gems, recipes and transmog items. Don’t leave till you have done all the quests. In Sm: Cath when you all get put to sleep this breaks the /follow so before Alvin leaves I had to press those follow macros again on Simon and Theodore.

36-42 Scholomance

Loads of quests here but you can’t grab them straight away. In the last room drop Simon and Theodore at the top of the stairs, take Alvin and clear all 5 rooms of trash and mini-bosses (3 up stairs and 2 down stairs). Kill Alexei which will summon Gandling.

Run out and reset, check there might be a rare spawn if you open the door at the entrance great for XP.

42 – 48 BRD

From entrance take a left, open the door and head towards Bael’Gar lots of packs here great for xp, head back to the entrance and clear everything in this area. I skip the arena event because it really slows you down. Instead head towards General Angerforge. Kill everything in the bar and keep going. Kill The Seven and take a right towards the Molten Core entrance, there are 10-11 level 56 fire elemental here to kill. The Lycueum is too much trouble so turn around and go back to the area above the arena.  Kill all these spectators and make your way towards pyromancer loregrain and clear the vault area and move towards Lord Incedious, from here go back to the entrance. Reset and repeat. The XP is fantastic, I did’nt do any quests before I was ready to move on to Blackrock spire.

48 - 57 LBRS + UBRS

Clear lbrs and then run back towards ubrs entrance, clear everything, grab the Jenkins title while you are here. Repeat and reset. Pick up quests at the entrance.

57 – 65 Hellfire dungeons normal and heroic

Clear ramparts until you get to 60, and then do heroic ramparts. If you are spreading out the RAF’ing over a few days just log in and do one normal and one heroic for a few days to get to 65. Otherwise keep doing normals, do the quests and you will 65 and ready to move onto shattered halls.

65-67 Shattered halls

Ok I died a lot in here, you will agro a whole room with 12-15 mobs so be ready to drop some serious AOE and if you root a mob it will attack the nearest player irrelevant of agro. There are sneaky orc rogues that will sap you and proceed to kill Simon and Theodore so make sure you have a pvp trinket ready just in case you don’t see one until it is too late!

Quests give insane xp, 160k -180k xp per quest. I got to 67 in 2 runs.

This is where I am currently I will be moving over to Northrend but first I pulled Simon and Theodore to SW to learn flying, learn some spells and get bigger/ more bags.

Sales Report 12th August

MySales

Sales are down during this week partly due to an end on expansion slow down but also because I missed 2 days of posting, hopefully sales will pick up next week.

 I have been focused on levelling alts to 80/85. I have 6 alchemists (4 horde, 2 Alliance) and have around 300 Essence of air and 40 scrolls stockpiled currently. I have two more characters in outlands and will get their alchemy skill levelled to at least 300 to get them joining in the fun. I will have a more detailed post on the alliance project soon.

I’m running low on essence of water so I started looking into farming them up in Swamp of Sorrows. I find it best with a BM hunter so you can go round at 138% speed because the mobs are spread out. I’ve picked up a few transmog items as well as globe of water’s which sell for around 20g here.

Six alchemists and around thirty days till launch so I need 180 essence of water with procs that will hopefully give me over 200 Essence of Air. I currently have around 60 essence of water so will do some more farming next weekend, I tend to combine the farming of these essences with the posting of transmog items and glyphs on my second account.

I think marathon runners call it tapering, I’ve started reducing the time I spend on the auction house for me my time is more well spent levelling alts and professions. 

My big goal for the early months of MoP is to have a better balance in the amount of gold I make on both factions. Up to now I’ve made 90% of my gold on the horde side but in MoP I’d like to get that closer to a 50-50 split.

The first thing to say is I don’t make a profit everyday, some days I will break even or make a loss. This can happen because of a combination of bad sales and buying  a lot of cheap mats. I am in the scrolls market so I mass buy cheap Maelstrom crystals and try to keep the price above 140g. This increases the sales for my main scrolls Landslide, Windwalk and Power torrent.

There was a time in the middle of the month where liquid gold increased steadily. To consistently increase gold through the lull I have diversified, I’ve gone back into markets I used to be in (Wotlk flasks, low level tailoring/LW). I am using wowuction to try and spot the gaps.

I focus on items with a 0.2 – 0.4 sold per day. I then look at TUJ to see if the item is posted consistently I’ve found some things like mongoose where the competition only posted during weekends. I post every day so I am getting those extra sales.

I get a lot of question about how it is really hard to make gold when really it’s not. You just need to set yourself a target and track your progress. Get the MySales Addon and config it so you see your weekly sales. See where your money is coming from. Set yourself a weekly target it might be 1k, 10k whatever you think is actually achievable.

Use TUJ to see what the busy sellers are doing, most likely the first 1-2 will be into 100% glyphs but look at the rest and see what they are selling and what they are posting, get some ideas!

Snapshot of MySales for this past week

Jim mentioned wildvine on his livestream a few weeks back, I got a few gathering herbs in felwood and they sold within an hour, I will price them a bit higher next time!

I have been pvping a lot this past week on my warrior and shaman in the 80-84 bracket, queue times are around three minutes.

I made a shopping list of herbs I needed to powerlevel 3 alchemists and a scribe, I knew that there would be times I would have to farm herbs because of the quanity I needed, I am looking at you goldthorn / strangelkelp. I went ahead and farmed up the gaps using my tauren druid and yesterday moved them all over.

Making Gold with Herbalism

 

This past week I’ve been busy getting mats together to level 3 alchemists. I compiled a shopping list and hit the Auction House on horde and alliance but there were some big gaps.

Briathorn, Stranglekelp, Goldthorn

These three items were in low supply and very expensive.

Off I went to Scarlet Monastery: Cathedral with bountiful bags expect around 20 Goldthorn per 5 clears which takes around ten minutes in total. You will also get a little liferoot and any race/class with movement speed increase could do it even faster.

EU TUJ mean price for Goldthorn is 16g

20x16 = 320g in 10 minutes

SM: Cath and WPL are very close so I would advise you do the 5 runs of SM cath and then fly to WPL and herb up Stranglekelp.

I am really excited about the new Pet Battle System

It’s been a while since I played Pokemon but from what I remember having varied pets to call upon was what won you most battles. Going in with for example all fire pets was very risky.

This means even though a good mechanical (engineer crafted) stockpile is still a good idea you may want to look at other options to diversify your stockpile across more pet types.

By pre-crafting or at least buying the materials now we can reduce the impact of inflation. Buying items at today’s price but selling them at tomorrow’s inflated price. If demand for these pets goes up then it might be harder to find materials let alone cheap materials. They sell for good profits today and they’ll sell for even better profits in the future.

I decided to mass craft some Engineering pets I watched the price of mats and tried to buy them in bulk when they were at the lowest point.

So you can do a few things:

1)     just stockpile Choke mats ready to flip in MoP

2)     stockpile all the mats for the toad and other pets

3)     Pre-craft everything and start selling it all now, more Demand when MoP launches but also likely to be way more competition in the pets market.

Wow players like to be rewarded, there needs to be some rewards for participating and being successful in the Pet Battle System. The Popularity of Pet Battles will largely depend on how much time/effort Blizzard put into it. I would love to see a ranking similar system similar to Arena’s with titles and other rewards. Hopefully they don’t add an overpowered pet that drops from the last boss of a raid or something.

What are the chances MOP will be released when the faire is in town? Frog box stockpile? Definitely something to think about once a release date for MoP is released

Geode pets have been mentioned a lot in livestreams/podcasts and I also think that if you can get them cheap grab some. In MoP only those levelling professions will go back to cataclysm zones to mine. Geode pets might still show up on the AH but the frequency will be greatly reduced and they will be a lot more expensive.

 The first one that came to mind for me was raptors; they can to an extent be farmed up and can be bought very cheap. A cheap raptor may have the exact same abilities as an expensive raptor.

So a lot of levelling ahead, I managed to get honoured with a guild last week and bought all the helm/back boa gear. I transmog my BOA gear (it costs a lot because it is based on the vendor value) so that I can I blow up unsuspecting people in BG’s, they think I’m using bad gear because of the looks and then they get two shot!

 Using the mailbox it was very easy to move all BOA gear from my main account horde side to my second account (same battle.net) alliance side. I’ve been posting transmog, recipe’s and pets on alliance side without too much resistance and I am looking forward to locking horns with some different people in different markets in MoP. I’ve already started trying to snap up some cheap materials ready for profession power levelling once my toons dings 75.

It’s not all about stockpiling materials, now is a great time to fill in those missing professions and level those classes you’ve always wanted to play.

Levelling going well but 75-80 goes really slow even with full cata gear at 77/78. Gathering mats for another professions weekend to get Alchemy, JC, Scribe all up to 525. Will work on skin/lw on DK when I get to 80.

Farming Embersilk Cloth and level 77-81 Greens

I was trying to get into the crafted cloth pvp market but I was struggling to get any good volume of Embersilk cloth. Items were selling but it could take me a week to do a full restock because of the shortage of cloth which went up in price from around 70g to 85g a stack.

I took my Frost DK (ilvl 374) over to Deepholm to see how much Embersilk I could get in an hour. While running round and killing stuff I was also picking up items in the 77-81 range. I used a Potion of Treasure Finding so that I could get extra Embersilk cloth from the tiny treasure chests. These are my stats based on my realm prices. Embersilk 4g/ea and 77-80 greens 250g, I don’t put a value on green over level 80 because they might not sell so I price them in as zero gold. If I get lucky and pick up an 81 chest/shoulder/wep then yes it will sell but just to keep math simple I split up the greens I got into good and bad.

Level 81 armour other than chest/shoulders can sell like these legplates but these sales are less frequent.

General tips: 

Always be doing damage. When I stop to loot I’ll throw death and decay on another group and a howling blast on another, I am looting and mobs are going down in health. I experimented with reforging everything into mastery but I did not really see any increase in damage so went back to no reforging. I use Glyph of Howling Blast and Glyph of Icy Touch. I am not great at playing a DK I just use howling blast and when they get close use frost strike.

 In one of the runs i did not get a green for fifteen minutes and then I got three in a row!

I did get killed a few times, my dot everything strategy (4-5 groups at a time) might rub some people the wrong way but thankfully the Graveyard is very close and you dont lose the potion when you die.

I did not include the gold picked up from mobs only the value of vendor trash minus repair costs and the gold that was contained inside the treasure chests.

Selling level 81 Greens

I bought eight level 81 items last night, and when I opened my mail this morning they had all sold. I think Gimp (@GimpsGold) originally came up with this theory of selling level 77-80 greens. If you were level 77 you could equip cataclysm greens that had much better stats than their WOTLK counterparts. This meant you could level faster and destroy people in the Battlegrounds. These cataclsysm greens had high ilvls allowing you to get into cataclysm dungeons like Throne of the Tides and Blackrock Caverns faster. No need to spend lots of time upgrading all your wotlk gear via quests. Instead you could save some time and get straight into the new dungeons. Jim and Alaeriel have mentioned having success wih 77-80 greens on their livestreams www.twitch.tv/jimyounkin and www.twitch.tv/alaeriel .

Majority of the items I sold were shoulders and chests, now why were people buying these level 81 greens? Surely if they wanted to buy items they would have bought them in the 77-80 range. However I then remembered that Wotlk BoA armour stops giving bonus XP at 81. So maybe some people are still wearing the shoulders and chest for the bonus XP until they ding 81. They are then upgrading once they hit level 81, buyers are thinking that there is no point buying a 77 green because they are already level 81 and can equip greens with a higher ilvl.

I’ve bought 10+ more level 81 items today and will track how fast they sell; I am only going to buy shoulders and chest from now on. Just thinking about it maybe Level 81 weapons could be something to look into as the boa weapon are 1-80 like the shoulders and chest. When someone goes to the Auction house to buy some level 81 green armour they might look at the level 81 weapons as well?

Use Armor/81/81/i272 in Auctionator and try shoulders/chests out first.
